A new milestone: 25,000 hits

28May11

Back in February I was pretty excited when HeatherBlog reached 10,000 hits. Three months later, I’m honored to be celebrating more than 25,000 visits.

My heaviest traffic (so far) came on March 4, 2011. That was the day I posted my historic photo of Elvis and Bigfoot riding the Loch Ness Monster.

OK … so that’s really Como Lake in St. Paul. And the figure on the far left isn’t Bigfoot; it’s actually Chewbacca throwing a baseball. But the rest of the photo happened exactly as you see it. Honest!

Seriously, though: I had no idea what I was getting into when I uploaded my first post almost exactly two years ago. I feared I’d have nothing to say. Worse yet, I worried that no one would care.

But my Minnesota friends encouraged me (thank you, Pam and Tom and Craig). And I made some wonderful online friends as well (thank you, knotrune and dancingbeastie and Lis and InsideJourneys and XpatScot!).

And here we all are, 41 subscribers, 511 comments, 543 posts, 928 tags, and 25,180 hits later.

My life has changed irrevocably over the past two years. I’ve glimpsed the thing that may kill me. But I’ve also done more than my fair share of living. And in this blog I’ve documented the highlights—and the low spots—along the way.

It’s strange to think that I started HeatherBlog on a lark one Saturday morning, simply because I was bored. But it’s even more strange to think that these words will be a part of the legacy that I’ll leave behind long after I’m gone.

I take some comfort in knowing that maybe one day my words—my voice—will comfort my husband and my friends. But I still hope that I’ll have many, many more years to bore them in person with my rambling tales and my nonsensical jokes.

So here’s a big, heartfelt thanks to everyone who has joined me on this journey. I hope you’ll stick with me through another 25,000 hits.

As always, thanks for reading …

Thanks so much, Katy! Love your blog as well. I’m your newest subscriber!

For the record: I don’t think you’re a word snob. Grammar and usage are still important, no matter what some may say. So keep those language lessons coming. And keep on writing, too … you have a wonderful voice.

      Cheers!

Oh, Heather…yes, please know that your words and thoughts and photos and insight are making a difference, daily. I applaud you for just posting every day, if nothing else. I haven’t posted to my own site in ages.

It is a huge comfort, though, to know our blogs will go on and on and provoke thoughts for ages to come. I have nothing much except for a few family heirlooms to pass on to the younger generation in my family, but….I have my online blogs and friends. And THAT, my dear, is a legacy right there.

Blessings to you, Heather. Keep on fighting the good fight.

Once again, you’ve made my day. Thanks so much, Lis … you’ll never know how much your encouragement and support mean. :) Happy Sunday to you!

  3. Quite an achievement !
It’s lovely to turn on my laptop each morning and there you are … helping me smile.
    Thanks.

    That’s a major accomplishment.

Oh, Heather. You nearly made me cry at the end there. Myopically, I’d never thought of our blogs floating around the ether long after we have gone – but you keep doing your darndest to stay with us, please! Discovering your blog was a moment of serendipity for me. I look forward to reading it every day. Of all the ‘virtual’ connections I have made in the blogosphere, yours is one of the very best.

So congratulations on those impressive stats, and here’s to the next 25,000! (Oh look, my dear husband has just put a large dram of Glenmorangie at my elbow. *Raises glass to toast Heather*) :)

You just made my entire MONTH, dancingbeastie! (Though I apologize for almost making you cry. I promise to do my darndest to spare you any more tears.) And I echo every one of your sentiments … of all the “virtual” connections I’ve made, yours is one of the very best as well. I still suspect we may have been separated at birth. :)

So … my husband and I will pour ourselves a wee dram of Oban and raise a toast to our friends across the pond. *Here’s to you.* (Hic!) :)

Congratulations Heather. It takes a lot of determination and hard work to build a following with so many blogs out there, clamouring for attention. BTW: my cousin wrote to me praising your Paris book (with good reason, of course). It just shows that when one has the courage to throw one’s work into the ether, one never knows where it will end up. Well done on your 25,000. Keith
